Wind is whipping autumn into submitting
to its will. Has clouds scuttling
long held plans and trees bowing
too low to be safe. Leaves
that are brittle from weeks without rain
and thin as onionskin
from being pounded
by the deluge that followed,
fall as if driven like cattle
to the slaughter. At first,
they fell by ones. Had the leisure
of drifting and reaching out
to touch and try to turn
bad luck to philosophy
complete with clowning while being
herded. But now, but now,
the air is dark
with bodies exploded from limbs
and twigs. And yet always
a smattering holds on.
A fire-topped oak here,
a bronze-cloaked maple there,
a belated fireworks display of unknown
origin that is such a brilliant orange,
one peers from under lowered lids
as if it were an eclipse.
Bless those who go against the tide,
no matter what.
Hold on by your teeth
for your Moment.

A Very Special Snowman

A Very Special Snowman

There once was a little snowman

who stood out by the pond

He watched as all the children

skated having lots of fun

He wished he could be just like them

skating across the ice

But all he could do is stand there

watching from day to night

He didn't know how special he was

because all that he could see

Is a lonely little snowman

wanting to be like others so desperately

He couldn't see why everyone loved him

just the way he was

And he didn't realize that he was made

and created out of love

All he could see is a snowman

who stood out by the pond

Wishing he was like the others

who skated having lots of fun

Then one night

He closed his little eyes of coal

and made a heartfelt plea

He asked to be like the children

who skated so merrily

All of a sudden he felt a jolt

and a warmth it filled him through

He could move his arms and move his legs

just like me and you

He saw that skates were on his feet

and so he stepped onto the ice

He fell down hard with a great big thud,

got up and fell down twice

He practiced in the night time

when the children were asleep

The more he tried, the better he got

and could skate, and jump, and leap

Then one day

The time had come when he would go

and step onto the ice

He started to skate amongst the crowd

thinking things would be alright

But no one even noticed him

he looked like all the rest

Just another skater

even though he tried his best

He heard the children talking,

asking where their snowman went

They missed him standing by the pond

made with care, their time they spent

As a snowman he was special

made with love by children's hands

He was their special man of snow

by the pond to watch and stand

He missed their heart felt greetings

he would get each and every day

By the children who so loved him

when they came to the pond to play

He learned an important lesson

on that cold and winters night

It's not what you do or look like

it's in your heart you find the light

So once again he closed his eyes

and spoke from within his heart

He prayed to be that man again

made of snow and coal in part

He prayed to be a snowman

the way he was meant to be

Just as the children created him

to be their friend that gave them glee

To his surprise his prayers were heard

and a snowman he became

Who happily stood out by the pond

through the snow and ice and rain

And each day as the children came

to skate and have their fun

They always greeted their man of snow

created from love, this special one

He stood there proud with a great big grin

because he finally knew his worth

You are special and beautiful the way you are

form the first day of your birth
